L’ATOS di SELEX Galileo selezionato come Sistema di Missione per i nuovi pattugliatori ATR72

SELEX Galileo equipaggierà con il sistema di missione ATOS (Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance System) i quattro ATR72 Maritime Patrol dell’Aeronautica Militare recentemente ordinati ad Alenia Aeronautica; il sistema comprenderà anche il radar di sorveglianza a scansione elettronica Seaspray per la prima volta ordinato da un cliente italiano. L’ATOS è stato già venduto in 5 diverse nazioni per un totale di oltre 40 sistemi integrati su piattaforme di varia tipologia, che spaziano dall’ATR42MP al DASH-8, dal Beechcraft 300 al CN-235, dal Piaggio Aero P-166 agli elicotteri AB412 e AS300B3. Sono attualmente in consegna sia i sistemi ATOS con Seaspray per la Marina dell’Ecuador che i primi sistemi per la guardia costiera australiana (Customs Coastwatch). La commessa con la Coastwatch è ad oggi la più significativa con 12 sistemi acquisiti che verranno impiegati in missioni di pattugliamento a lungo raggio.
L’ATOS in Italia è già in servizio sugli ATR42MP della Guardia di Finanza e della Guardia Costiera e, in versione Light Weight, sul P166-DP1, anch’esso in dotazione alla Guardia di Finanza.
Il recente contratto per i velivoli ATR 72 Maritime Patrol per l’Aeronautica Militare prevede per la parte di competenza SELEX Galileo la fornitura di quattro sistemi di missione ATOS in versione Maritime Long Range Surveillance (MLRS). Nella configurazione prevista per il cliente nazionale, l’ATOS sarà integrato con il radar AESA Seaspray 7300, la torretta elettro-ottica multi sensore EOST-23 per l’identificazione in ogni condizione meteorologica di natanti e persone, un data link tattico, comunicazioni, IFF, AIS e ESM.
Il radar AESA Seaspray 7000E di SELEX Galileo è stato selezionato dalla Royal Navy per il programma Future Lynx (versione SCMR Surface Combatant Maritime Rotorcraft) mentre il Seaspray 7500E è impiegato con successo dalla US Coast Guard ed è stato di recente selezionato anche dalla Marina dell’Ecuador.
Gli aerei ATR72, bimotori a turbina a medio raggio, saranno consegnati all’Aeronautica Militare a partire dal 2012 per essere impiegati per il pattugliamento marittimo con equipaggi misti con la Marina Militare.
Il velivolo è una versione dell’aereo da trasporto regionale ATR72 appositamente sviluppata da Alenia Aeronautica e offre un’autonomia maggiore rispetto agli ATR42MP già in dotazione alla Guardia di Finanza e alla Guardia Costiera che, gia da tempo, impiegano i loro 7 esemplari in servizio per il controllo delle acque territoriali, le vie marittime, le zone economiche esclusive e per combattere il fenomeno dell’immigrazione clandestina e del contrabbando.
Il velivolo, inoltre, sarà equipaggiato con sistemi di comunicazione di ultima generazione e, tramite sistema datalink, potrà trasmettere le informazioni a terra in tempo reale ai centri di comando e controllo basati a terra e ad altre piattaforme, sia in volo che sul mare, per il coordinamento e la massima efficacia delle operazioni.

Personalmente ritengo che con una dotazione ASW si sarebbe fatto un acquisto decente, ma solo con un ATOS potenziato da torretta e radar AESA non saremo in gardo di avere una copertura antisom decente nel Mediterraneo. Che la pace duri per sempre…
