Consegnato primo Unmanned Surface Vehicle alla U.S. Navy per le Littoral Combat Ship

Il primo Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) per compiti ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) appartenente alla classe “Fleet” è stato consegnato da General Dynamics alla US Navy come parte del pacchetto di missione della nuova LCS.
Al fine di progettare, integrare, testare e consegnare il veicolo secondo le specifiche desiderate dalla marina General Dynamics ha lavorato in collaborazione con un team della US Navy che include il Program Executive Office divisione Littoral & Mine Warfare (LMW), il PMS-420 (Mission Modules Program Office), lo Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center di San Diego ed il Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC).
Un secondo USV sarà consegnato al Naval Undersea Warfare Center di Newport, Rhode Island, nel mese di giugno. Questi USV sono i primi veicoli di superficie senza pilota a ricevere il numero di scafo dalla Marina USA, e saranno identificati rispettivamente come “11MUC0601″ e “11MUC0602″.
L’ ASW USV è una piattaforma veloce ed agile con ottima tenuta in mare destinata ad operare in ambienti litoranei per sconfiggere minacce “anti-accesso” come mine, sottomarini diesel silenziosi, e asimmetriche come imbarcazioni veloci di superficie. Opera sensori di navigazione e acustici, tra cui il sistema di controllo autonomo che consente all’USV di effettuare manovre evasive o di attracco, pianificazione della rotta e situational awareness a 360 gradi, un sonar rimorchiato e un sistema sonar attivo multistatico fuoribordo a bassa frequenza.
Può essere configurato per svolgere missioni durature di intelligence, sorveglianza e ricognizione con sensori radar, EO/IR, SIGINT e NBC, homeland security, operazioni speciali, interdizione e protezione della flotta.
L’USV è lungo 11 metri, può trasportare un carico pagante di 2.2 tonnellate, spostarsi ad una velocità fino a 35 nodi, ed operare ininterrottamente per 24 ore prima di venire recuperato dalla LCS di appartenenza.
