Impostata seconda Fleet Tanker per l’India

E’ stata impostata presso lo stabilimento Fincantieri di Sestri Ponente (Genova) la seconda unità di rifornimento e supporto logistico (fleet tanker) per l’India. Questa unità, gemella di “Deepak”, varata lo scorso febbraio e in corso di costruzione nello stabilimento di Muggiano (La Spezia), è stata commissionata a Fincantieri dalla Marina militare indiana attraverso l’esercizio dell’opzione prevista dal contratto siglato nel 2008. La consegna è prevista nell’autunno 2011.
Madrina della cerimonia è stata Vandana Khatri, moglie di uno degli ufficiali della Marina Indiana che sovraintendono la costruzione dell’unità in cantiere. Come da tradizione indiana, l’impostazione è stata preceduta da alcuni riti beneauguranti, come la rottura delle noci di cocco e l’utilizzo di incenso per cospargere la frutta benedetta. Inoltre il blocco è stato istoriato di simboli spirituali con lo stesso pigmento naturale che viene impiegato per disegnare il famoso “terzo occhio” sulle fronti delle donne indiane.
La nave sarà lunga 175 metri, larga 25, alta 19 metri, avrà un dislocamento a pieno carico di 27.500 tonnellate, un apparato propulsivo composto da due motori diesel da 10mila kW e potrà raggiungere una velocità massima di 20 nodi. Al pari della sua gemella, la nuova unità avrà un sistema propulsivo costituito da un asse dotato di un’elica a pale orientabili, un ponte di volo per l’impiego di elicotteri medio-pesanti (fino a 10 tonnellate) e potrà effettuare il rifornimento di quattro unità in contemporanea, grazie ai doppi portali. Potrà ospitare circa 250 persone, fra equipaggio e personale di supplemento e sarà caratterizzata dalla presenza di un doppio scafo, in grado di consentire una maggiore protezione delle cisterne di carburante contro i rischi di inquinamento in caso di collisioni o danneggiamenti, in ottemperanza alle nuove norme Marpol sulla protezione ambientale dettate dall’International Maritime Organization.
L’avvio di questa nuova unità si inquadra nella strategia di Fincantieri di presidiare tutti i segmenti del mercato, dal civile al militare, e rappresenta un segnale significativo per la ripresa anche dell’export militare in un momento delicato. Inoltre, la messa in atto di un progetto militare all’interno di un cantiere destinato solitamente alla produzione crocieristica esprime la volontà dell’azienda di mantenere il carico di lavoro in tutti i siti produttivi.
