Programma Armed Aerial Scout (AAS): Le proposte EADS e Sikorsky

A seguito della richiesta di informazioni emanata dall’Esercito USA relativa al programma Armed Aerial Scout (AAS) per l’acquisizione di un elicottero da esplorazione e ricognizione, EADS e Sikorsky hanno inviato le loro proposte, basate rispettivamente sull’AAS-72X e sul LTH (Light Tactical Helicopter) X2.
EADS, a capo del team industriale comprendente Eurocopter America e Lockheed Martin, offre una soluzione a basso rischio con lo sviluppo di 3 dimostratori indipendenti dell’AAS-72X, il primo dei quali sarà operativo a fine 2010 e verrà usato come piattaforma di prova per equipaggiamenti e armi. L’AAS-72X Technical Demonstration Aircraft (TDA) è basato sull’ UH-72A Lakota (versione militare dell’elicottero commerciale EC145), che sta andando progressivamente a sostituire gli OH-58 Kiowa e UH-1 Huey ormai obsoleti di Esercito e Guardia Nazionale, come previsto dal contratto Light Utility Helicopter vinto nel giugno del 2006.
Sikorsky offre il Light Tactical Helicopter, che incorpora la tecnologia X2.
E’ caratterizzato da due rotori coassiali controrotanti ed un’elica propulsiva di coda che consente al mezzo di raggiungere i 250 nodi (460 km/h, prestazioni comparabili a quelle del convertiplano V-22 Osprey). Il mezzo intende incontrare i bisogni dell’esercito e del comando operazioni speciali per un velivolo multimissione che possa viaggiare ad una velocità doppia rispetto agli elicotteri convenzionali e combinare ottime doti di manovrabilità e performance con una bassa signatura acustica. In tal modo l’X2 LTH potrebbe effettuare missioni di ricognizione armata, assalto, supporto aereo ravvicinato, ricerca e soccorso in condizioni di combattimento, o subire modifiche per renderlo “unmanned”.
In aggiunta Sikorsky offre anche l’UH-60M, ultima versione del collaudato elicottero multiruolo Black Hawk, a seconda dei requisiti che verranno imposti nella competizione.
Il Pentagono ha indicato che dovrà essere soddisfatta l’esigenza di elicotteri AAS nei prossimi 7-10 anni.
