UK: Inizia la costruzione della portaerei Prince of Wales

La costruzione della HMS Prince of Wales, la seconda portaerei classe Queen Elizabeth (QE) della Royal Navy, è iniziata presso il cantiere di Govan di proprietà di BAE Systems sul fiume Clyde.

Le nuove unità, HMS Queen Elizabeth e HMS Prince of Wales, avranno un dislocamento di 65.000 tonnellate e potranno operare fino a 40 velivoli ad ala fissa e rotante (F-35C Lightning II, piattaforme Airborne Early Warning, Chinook e Apache). I costi complessivi di acquisizione sono saliti da 5.7 miliardi di euro a circa 8 miliardi di euro (£7bn).
BAE Systems è membro della Aircraft Carrier Alliance, consorzio industriale incaricato della produzione delle due QE, che comprende Babcock, Thales e il Ministero della Difesa britannico.
