Il Ministero della Difesa Inglese acquisirà con urgenza 130 veicoli 4×4 MWMIK, basati sul Supacat HMT 400, al fine di soddisfare il requisito operazionale delle truppe inglesi in Iraq e Afghanistan per un mezzo corazzato medio per pattugliamenti in grado di aumentare sicurezza mobilità e carico trasportabile.
Il nuovo veicolo, definito “un Land Lover a base di steroidi”, può trasportare 4 soldati completamente equipaggiati e verrà armato con il WMIK (Weapons Mounted Installation Kit) standard dei mezzi inglesi da ricognizione e supporto ravvicinato di fuoco, che comprende una mitragliatrice GPMG (general purpose machine gun) da 7.62mm, un lanciagranate ALGL (Automatic Lightweight Grenade Launcher) GMG della Heckler & Koch o in alternativa la mitragliatrice pesante calibro .50.
Nonostante sia un veicolo dal peso di 4 tonnellate, l’MWMIK potrà raggiungere una velocità di 130 Km/h e operare su differenti tipologie di terreni, compresi scenari desertici (Iraq) o rocciosi/sconnessi (Afghanistan).
Le consegne ai reparti nei teatri operativi avverrà all’inizio del 2008.
